Performance at The Poet’s Passage
The Poet’s Passage, located in Plaza de Armas in Old San Juan, hosts poetry and music open mic night every Tuesday beginning at 7pm. It is a great way to experience an eclectic mix of the city’s talented poets and musicians, including founder and renowned local poet, Lady Lee Andrews. It is a warm and welcoming environment to step into the world of poetry.
The Poet’s Passage, localizado en Plaza de Armas en Viejo San Juan, presenta una noche de micrófono libre para música y poesía cada martes comenzando a las 7pm. Es una gran forma de conocer la mezcla ecléctica de talento que ofrece la ciudad, incluyendo a Lady Lee Andrews, fundadora del local y una celebrada poeta del área. Es el perfecto ambiente para su introducción a la poesía.

Friends,
After a year long production, shooting on the film has finally been completed. Post production on the documentary has now begun, and although it will be a long and challenging journey, it will also be exciting and rewarding. I strongly feel that the footage we have has captured the reality of Puerto Rico, in both its beauty and its flaws. Through out the editing process I will take the time to post pics and videos. Hemos completado la grabación del documental, y el equipo ha comenzado la post-producción. Nos espera un camino largo y tedioso pero estamos confiados que filmamos algo impactante. “Santurce es Ley” Sept. 17th, First shoot back!
The second round of filming on “Once Upon A Time in Puerto Rico” begun September 17th at the independent artists event “Santurce es Ley.” It was a great day, featuring many incredible young artists. The graffiti was phenomenal. I felt honored to be able to capture these young artists on film. And felt especially proud to see Puerto Rico’s younger generations furthering our art and culture.
It’s important for the youth to have an expressive outlet where they can share their emotions with others in an artistic culture rather than bottling them up, and taking out their frustrations on others in a violent culture. These artists recognize the need to relate to both their parents and each other. Our community should encourage them to take the rich cultural love they’ve been handed down, and make it their own in accordance with their experiences and circumstances. In this manner our culture will grow, and this ethereal Puerto Rican spirit of brotherly love will continue to thrive in our little garden paradise.
El segundo segmento de filmación de “Érase Una Vez en Puerto Rico” comienzo el 17 de septiembre en el evento para artistas independientes “Santurce es Ley.” Fue un evento exitoso, con muchos artistas jóvenes increíbles. El graffiti estaba fenomenal. Me sentí honorado de tener la oportunidad para capturar a estos artistas en video, y me sentí extraordinariamente orgulloso por ver muchos Puertorriqueños jóvenes avanzando nuestra arte y cultura.
Es importante que la juventud tenga un desagüe donde puedan expresar a sus emociones con otros en una cultura artística en vez de aguantándolas y desahogar sus frustraciones en otros en una cultura violente. Estos artistas reconocen la necesidad de relacionar con sus padres y entre ellos mismos. Nuestra comunidad debe de apoyarlos en aceptando la cultura de amor rica que han recibido y recreando algo suyo, de acuerdo con sus experiencias y circunstancias. En esta manera nuestra cultura crecerá, y este espíritu etéreo Puertorriqueño de amor medrara en nuestro pequeño jardín paraíso.

The Human Spirit
English Version
Filmmaking is about details. Billions of details, each one unique, and varied in breath and importance. Elements of a story that must come together, as do elements in nature, to create a harmony that is more than the sum of its parts. We have spent a great deal of time paying close attention to the infinite detail that forms the texture of this island community. A community that through centuries of foreign occupation has remained its own distinct nation. Yet the brilliance of these cultural and environmental details come short of fully describing the Puerto Rican. We are fortunate to be Documentary Filmmakers. The search for engaging detail has submerged us into the rich perspectives of a diverse people. This reveals to us the most important one, the human spirit.
You first experience their joys, their sorrows, and the struggle for survival. Then it suddenly happens: you look into their eyes, and you begin to understand. The illusion of individuality disappears, the details that lured you in begin to dissipate, and beneath the parting matter you find yourself in others. This is where compassion begins, and allows your heart to grow. It is the gift that comes with opening up to the world: discovering the true human story. However different we all are, we are the same, we are one. This is the life giving paradox of our reality: that we may love each other as one, while simultaneously acknowledging that there is individual beauty, and tolerating the nuances of specific people. As with cultures around the world, Puerto Rico’s is a vibrant one, rich with color and deep emotions, all of which compose this West Indian portrait.

La grabación de peliculas es una incursión en detalles. Billones de detalles, todos únicos, variados en amplitud e importancia. Elementos de una historia que se unen, como en la naturaleza, a crear una armonia que es más que la adición de sus partes. Hemos pasado mucho tiempo poniendole atención a los detalles infinitos que componen la textura de la comunidad de esta isla. Una comunidad que, a traves de siglos de ocupación extranjera se mantiene siendo una nación distinta. Sin embargo, el resplandor de estos detalles se quedan cort en totalmente describir al Puertorriqueño. Somos dichosos en ser cineastas de documental. La búsqueda de detalles atractivos nos a sumergido dentro de las perspectivas ricas de una gente diversa. Esto nos revela el detalle más importante, el espíritu humano.
Prímero tu sientes sus alegrías, sus tristezas, y la batalla para sobrevivir. Luego y de repente ocurre algo: miras en sus ojos, y comienzas a relacionar. La illusión de la individualidad desaparece, los detalles que te atrajeron se empiezan a disipar, y finalmente encuentras que estas mirando en un espejo. Aqui es donde la compasión empieza, y facilita que su corazón cresca. El regalo verdadero que viene con abriendose al mundo es que uno descubre a la verdadera historia humana. A través de todas nuestras diferencias somos lo mismo, somos uno. Esta es la paradoja de nuestra realidad: que nos podemos amar como uno, simultáneamente reconocer que hay belleza individual, y tolerar las matizes de gente específica. Como es con todas las culturas del mundo, la de Puerto Rico es una vibrante, rica en color y emociones profundas que componen esta pintura Antillana.

3 Weeks In! ~ La Tercera Semana!
We are now entering the third week of filming on the documentary and despite some minor setbacks, we are going strong. We’ve had shoots in San Juan, Morovis, Cayey, Florida, El Yunque, and are branching out still even further. We want to cover as many facets of the modern day situation here as possible.
